X-Change Talks with Jessica Louise
March 12th, 2015
This week on X-Change Talks we have the beautiful and extremely talented singer from the upcoming single “Stronger” coming out March 16th, Jessica Louise! Jessica is a native to LA with a powerful and enchanting voice. She fell in love with music at a very young age and pursues her passion of passion through production of her EP, YouTube Channel and blog found at www.jessicalouisemusic.com
Thanks to Jessica for taking the time to come out and talk to us! Full interview below!
X: Who is your biggest musical inspiration and why?
JL: This is such a tough question because I have so many inspirations from so many different genres! But if I had to choose just one, I’d have to give it up for Lauryn Hill. She’s one of those raw and honest artists who used their music to speak to people. Her music was empowering, heartbreaking and inspirational all at the same time. And need I mention her voice! I still have yet to hear anything that compares to her.
X: What do you think about the music industry today? Do you like the current trends and most importantly, how do you think it will change in the upcoming years with more technology coming out and people being able to be more social with artist they like?
JL: The music industry is in the midst of a huge shift and it has been for a few years now. In this day and age, it’s all about the DIY artists now. There’s so much more power to the artist and at the same time, there’s much more work to the artist to really think of ourselves as a business and a brand. We are the generation of entrepreneurs. This is true for every industry. The tools are out there for us to fulfill our dreams. We don’t have to wait for permission from anyone.
X: What message do you think Stronger sends to the young woman?
JL: Stronger is all about empowerment and having strength in the face of any obstacle. I think we all go through it at one point in our lives. We fall so deeply in love with someone that we can’t see what’s really going on. We fight, break up, get back together, and continue this vicious cycle. But Stronger is about a girl who breaks through and says, no I’m not going to stand for this anymore, I’m moving on and loving myself. #GirlPower
X: What’s your favorite thing about making music?
JL: My favorite thing about making music is that I can write and sing about things that really matter to me and inspire others with the art that I create. It’s also an amazing outlet to express myself.
X: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
JL: Start now! Go at your own pace, take baby steps if you have to. But take a step forward every single day and please do not let anyone make you feel like you don’t have what it takes or that you’re not good enough! People will tell you that, the people you love may or may not support you, but if you have a dream, it is your job to go out there and fulfill it. And you can start by developing a team – find writers you work well with, or producers who share your same style. Make cool stuff together and post it for everyone to see! It might be awful at first but it’s start!
X: How do you think making music in LA is different from making music in other parts of the U.S.? What do you think about the overall LA music scene?
JL: Hmm..that’s tricky because I’ve actually only made music here in LA since this is my hometown. The best thing about making music in LA is that nothing you create is too weird or unordinary. Because we’re making music in Los Angeles, it sort of gives me the freedom to experiment and share with other artists. I walk down the street and I play at an open mic or go to Low End Theory to check out some upcoming DJ’s. This city is filled with crazy talent from every different genre and it’s all really inspiring and exciting. I love the LA music scene!
